HTML Editor | How to Insert Stuff in the Editor

The HTML Editor integrates with all Brightspace tools that have HTML content creation capabilities. For example, the HTML Editor is available when you edit discussion topics, create custom instructions for assignments, and create content topics.

In the Editor bar,

  1. Click on Insert Stuff

Insert Stuff options

A pop-up window Insert Stuff will open. The Insert Stuff link allows you to add files, images, videos, links, and more. It is available anywhere in the course where the HTML Editor is available. Select one of the options to be inserted in the HTML Editor:

1. My Computer

My Computer settings will open in the same pop-up window,

  1. Drag and drop files or Click on Upload to search files from your computer
  2. Click on Choose Destination to choose a location in which to store the file
  3. Click on Upload

In the same pop-up window, the file will appear under Source and more options are available

2. H5P Content

H5P settings will open in the same pop-up window. H5P is a free and open-source content collaboration framework based on JavaScript. Select the H5P content type you want to add, then

  1. Click on Insert

  1. Click on Insert

4. Course Offering Files

Course Offering Files settings will open in the same pop-up window. The Manage Files tool is a file management system, find and upload files associated with your course offering.

  1. Click on the name of the folder

  2. Click on Next

5. Learning Repository

Learning Repository settings will open in the same pop-up window. Brightspace Learning Repository is an online library for storing, managing and sharing your learning objects.

  1. Type the name of the Course guide or a Course Code
  2. Click on Search

  1. Click on a file then,
  2. Click on Next

6. Add Video Note

Video Note settings will open in the same pop-up window. Video Note is a lightweight video recording service that allows learners and instructors to record short videos with a webcam. These videos can be added where video attachments are supported and when the HTML Editor’s Insert Stuff option is available.

  • Make sure that the computer has a webcam and/or microphone to record video or audio messages. First, give permission in your browser that Brightspace may use the webcam and/or the microphone. A pop-up will appear automatically in which you can give this permission
  • You also need Flash. This function does not work with Safari. Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox instead
  • Do you only want to record audio? You can record sound without connecting the webcam
  1. Click on New Recording to record a Video Note
  2. (Optional) Add a file from your computer instead of recording a video by clicking on Upload File
  3. Click on Next

In the same pop-up window, more settings will appear,

  1. Give a Title to the recording
  2. Give a Description to the recording
  3. Select the Audio Language by clicking on the downward arrow
  4. Click on Next

8. YouTube

YouTube settings will open in the same pop-up window. YouTube is a video sharing service that allows users to watch videos posted by other users and upload videos of their own.

  1. Enter one or more keywords in the search bar
  2. Click on Search

YouTube video results will appear,

  1. Click on the desired YouTube video
  2. Click on Next

9. Flickr

Flickr settings will open in the same pop-up window. Flickr is an image and video hosting service.

  1. Enter one or more keywords in the search bar
  2. Click on Search

  1. Click on the desired Flickr image
  2. Click on Next

11. Enter Embed Code

Enter Embed Code settings will open in the same pop-up window. Enter Embed Code can be used to embed code for an object from anywhere on the web.

  1. Paste the embed code in the text box
  2. Click on Next

Bear in mind, when embedding a video, the video is still at the external source. You do not save the video yourself in Brightspace.
