LabBuddy | How to manage students groups in LabBuddy
Create Cohort in LabBuddy
The following instructions can be also found via the ? icon on the left bar of your LabBuddy screen
A Cohort in LabBuddy is a selection of student groups and/or individual students, for example all students or groups of a specific course in a specific year. Cohorts can have the following elements:
- Individual students: You can indicate which students should have individual access
- Groups: You can indicate which groups should have access
- Content: You can indicate which content the individual students or groups should have access to
To create a cohort:
- Navigate to the People icon on the left side of your screen

- In the menu, click on Cohorts

- Click the Add cohort button

- Enter a title, for example the course and the academic year

- Add the content belonging to this cohort. Note: do not add items that you are currently editing. You can add these later.

- Add individual students and/or supervisors to the cohort. (The list with students and/or groups may be empty)
- With the option Auto-enroll users, you can give automatic access to all individual students that click on the link of the ExxperD or Linear Case

- With the option Active, you can deactivate the cohort by which you block access to the content for this cohort. For example, if you do not want the students to have access yet.

- Scroll down and click Save
- Your Cohort is created. Individual students/Supervisors now have access to the content you added to the Cohort. To import groups, continue with the next steps
- After saving, the button Import groups from Brightspace appears.

- If you have created groups in Brightspace (self-enroll or made by the lecturer), you can import them in LabBuddy.

Navigate to your Cohort:
- Navigate to the People icon on the left side of your screen

- In the menu, click on Cohorts
- Select your Cohort
- Click on the Import groups from Brightspace button
- Click on the downward arrow to select your course
- Select the Groups Category you determined in Brightspace
- Select the groups you want to import to this particular ExperD (leave selection empty to import all groups in this list)
- Click on Import Groups

A new window will appear with all the selected imported Groups. The import of groups to your Cohort is finished.
- Open the ExperD
- Click on the downward arrow next to the Select group/user heading to check if the import of Groups was completed succesfully

Add/remove existing students from group
This method only applies to students that have an account on your LabBuddy page. An account is automatically created when students open LabBuddy via the LTI link in your Brightspace course.
Go to your LabBuddy page:
- Navigate to the People icon on the left side of your screen

- Choose Groups
- Search for the group that needs to be changed, click to this group

On the page that opens
- Click Edit

- Move names from left to right to add to the group
- Move names from right to left to remove from the group
- Scroll down and click Save

Students work in LabBuddy individually
Create a Cohort (see Create a Cohort in LabBuddy) and add individual students and the ExperD to this Cohort.
Remove Cohort
The following instructions can be also found via the ? icon on the left bar of your LabBuddy screen
When importing a new Cohort, it is handy (but not necessary) to remove the old Cohort from the ExperD. Take the following steps to remove a Cohort from the ExperD:
To remove a Cohort:
- Navigate to the People icon on the left side of your screen

- Click on Cohorts
- Select your Cohort
- Click Edit

- Remove the ExperD from your Cohort

- Scroll down and click Save
- Students in your Cohort no longer have access to this ExperD
