How to add text in the Editor

TheĀ HTML EditorĀ integrates with all Brightspace Learning Environment tools that have HTML content creation capabilities. For example, the HTML Editor is available when you edit discussion topics, create custom instructions for assignments, Ā and create content topics.

How to add text

1. Add a Title

2. Click on the three dots icon on the top right corner of the text box

Create a File homepage, Enter a Title, then click on the three dots of the top-right corner of the text box

This will open more options in the formatting toolbar

Explanation of the bar

1. Media icons

On the left side of the top bar in the Editor box, there are three icons

  • Insert stuff - Enables you to insert media (including audio and video) files from a variety of sources.
  • Insert imageĀ - Enables you to insert an image
  • Insert quick links - Enables you to insert a quick link to a resource inside Learning Environment

For more inserting options,

1. Click on the downward arrow, a drop-down menu will appear

  • Insert Symbol - add symbols or other special characters
  • Insert Line - add a horizontal line separating paragraphs
  • Insert Attributes - add Title, ID, Class, Style, and Text Direction attributes to selected text without opening the Source Editor
  • Insert Emoticon - add an emoticon

2. Formatting icons

There are several options to format your text

1. Text style

1. Click on downward arrow next to paragraph, a drop-down menu will appear choose the style of the text

2. Typographical emphasis

You can format your text using typographical emphasis

  • Bold - Ā makes the selected text Bold
  • Italic - makes the selected text Italic
  • Underlined - Underlines the selected text


1. Click on downward arrow next Underline icon, a drop-down menu will appear with more typographical emphasis options

3. Paragraph format

There are three icons. The first is to increase indentation, the second is to decrease indentation and the third is to add Bullets. For further options such as numbered enumeration and text alignment

1. Click on the downward arrow next to the Bullets icon, a drop-down menu will appear

4. Font

Choose a font for your text,

1. Click on the downward arrow to choose your font

5. Font size

Choose a font size for your text,

1. Click on the downward arrow to choose your font size

6. Font colour

Choose a font colour,

1. Click on the downward arrow

This action will open a pop-up window

2. Select a colour

3. Click on the blue button Save

Select a colour, then click on the blue button save
7. Table and properties

To Insert a Table,

1. Click on Table icon, choose the number of row and columns

Click on Table icon to choose number of rows and columns

For editing and further table properties,

2. Click on the downward arrow next to Table icon, a drop-down menu will appear

3. Extra components

After clicking on the three dots, extra components will appear on the left side of the bottom bar in the Editor. You will see four icons, you can insert equations , undo, cut and/or copy text.

1. Click on Sigma icon (Ī£), for Graphical Equations

Click on Sigma icon, for Graphical Equation

This launches the Graphical equation, a pop-up window will appear

2. Insert Equation

3. Click on blue button Insert

4. Click on downward arrow, a drop-down menu will appear - choose equation type

2. Reversibility

1. Click on arrow to Undo the last action

2. Click on downward arrow to Redo the last action

Click on arrow to Undo, and click on downward arrow to redo
3. Cut and Copy

1. Click on the scissors icon to Cut (copies and deletes the selected content to the clipboard)

2. Click on document sheets to Copy the selected content to the clipboard

Click on scissors to cut, and document sheets to copy

3. Click on Save and close or onĀ Save to save the file as a draft, so that you can work on it later.Ā 

Click on the blue button Save and close, or Save or cancel
